MAHINDRA TRUCKS AND BUSES RECOGNIZES THE HEROES OF THE INDIAN TRANSPORT INDUSTRY





Mumbai, December 20, 2011: Mahindra Trucks and Buses Automotives Limited (MTB), a part of the US $ 14.4 billion Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Group, felicitated the heroes of Indian transportation at a glittering ceremony held yesterday in New Delhi for the first ever Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Transport Excellence Awards . These awards were instituted to recognise and reward Outperformance, Excellence, Innovation and Change Leadership in the transport ecosystem - keeping in sync with the values that epitomise the spirit of MTB.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Shri Praful Patel - Honorable Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India alongside Mr. S. Sundareshan - Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Govt. of India, Mr. Anand Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. - Chairman, Mahindra Trucks and Buses Automotives Ltd. and VC & MD - Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Dr. Pawan Goenka - President, Automotives & Farm sector - Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. , Mr. Nalin Mehta - Managing Director - Mahindra Trucks and Buses Automotives Ltd. and other prominent business leaders such as Mr. Barun Das - CEO, Zee News Ltd.

The evening commenced with Dr. Pawan Goenka sharing his views - "Mahindra Trucks and Buses, as the challenger brand has taken upon itself, the onus of making a difference in the lives of the trucking community. Firstly with its products and now with these awards, MTB has connected with the transport ecosystem at an emotional level. Coupled with its service back up and a sense of customer service, MTB will, in times to come, become one of the most respected brands of the Indian trucking industry".

Dr. Goenka then invited Chief Guest - Shri Praful Patel on stage, who began his speech by first congratulating Mahindra Trucks and Buses on undertaking such an initiative to bring laurels to the transport industry. And later, spoke words of motivation in his keynote, extending his heartiest congratulation to all the award winners - "I urge the transporters present here today to adapt to current unprecedented economic changes and emerge victorious by investing in the future today. It is very important to imbibe industry imperatives such as innovation in technology, enriching partnership and transforming workforce that defines the path to prosperity. I convey my best wishes to Mahindra Trucks and Buses for their foresight and ingenuity in collaborating with multiple stakeholders through this first ever Transport Excellence Award and wish them all success in their future endeavors".

Later on, as the evening progressed, Mr. Anand Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. addressed the gathering, urging the second generation of entrepreneurs to seriously consider stepping into their father's shoes - "You can take the foundation your parent has built, and grow your own dreams by building on it. Because this is a new India and it needs all the entrepreneurs it can get."

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nalin Mehta had a few words of his own to share with the gathering - "We at Truck and Bus division wished to recognise the invaluable contribution made by the various stakeholders in the transport ecosystem. All the Transporters, Drivers, the Dhaba Owners, Financiers and the Not-for-Profit Organizations present here today have been the unsung heroes of the transport sector for a very long time. And going forward, we will continue to celebrate excellence in transport industry for years to come."
Overall, these awards have set new standards for Indian transportation in recognising and rewarding the efforts of its key constituents. And this will go a long way in encouraging the younger generation of entrepreneurs to look at transport as an attractive career alternate which now gets its due share of recognition.

These awards, dedicated to the transport industry were instituted to recognise and reward Outperformance, Excellence, Innovation and Change Leadership in the transport ecosystem – in sync with the values which epitomise the spirit of MTB.

Some of the noteworthy winners include:
  • Mr. Abdul Ghani, fleet driver, Professional Automotives Ltd. - winner of the "Super Outperformer Driver of the Year 2011" and a brand New MN 25 Truck.

  • Mr. Nitesh Agarwal, DARCL Logistics Ltd. - winner of the "Youth Transport Personality of the Year 2011" Award.

  • Mr. Ravindra Singh, R K Food Point Dhaba - first ever winner of the Highway Dhaba award through drivers' votes.

  • In the Fleet Owners category, InLand Road Transport Pvt. Ltd., Cargo Wings and Siddhi Vinayak Logistic Ltd. were winners of the National Awards.

  • In the Commercial Vehicle Financiers’ category, SREI BNP Paribas, Kotak Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Bank Ltd. and HDFC Bank Ltd. were winners of the National Awards.

  • In the NGO Category, Transport Corporation of India Foundation, Lokmanya Medical Foundation and Sangli Zilla Transport Association were winners of the National Awards.
